An oasis for my master bedroom, please!

Our bedrooms should be the one place where we can go to escape the chaos of family life. They should enhance a sense of calm, encourage relaxation, and have a touch of luxury thrown in for good measure! But in reality, they become the room we hide with a closed door when guests come over and quite often are the least prettiest place in our home. Usually it’s because, well, who can be bothered putting in the effort to make this room nice when no one ever sees it but you? Trust me on this one, there is a lot to be said for having a room that you love and can melt into at the end of a busy day. And it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Here are my top tips for turning your master bedroom into the parent’s retreat you’ve always dreamed of.

  1. Splash out on paint or wallpaper

Painting is the easiest and most effective way to transform your master bedroom. Paint instantly lifts a space out of its dreary state into changes it into a fresh, modern room just like that. Go for paint colours that are neutral and fresh like white and grey, or a feature wall in a calming accent colour. Blues, greens and greys are calm colours and are known for enhancing a serene mood, which are ideal for the bedroom. If you you’re not keen to go all out with paint, opt for a feature wall of wallpaper in a modern print. There are so many designs and styles that work with all kinds of décor, and even the smallest feature wallpaper wall can make all the difference!

  1. Update your bed linen

Old sheets can quickly become tired-looking on the bed, so investing in new bed linen is like investing in a new set of clouds to sleep on. They look and feel amazing, and can be the finishing touch to your room. Make sure you don’t go for too much pattern as this can make the room feel busy and become distracting. Simple designs are the way to go, and choose colours that tie in with the accents of the room and compliment the colour palette.

  1. Hang that Artwork

Artwork is expensive, we know. But there are so many great options out there that aren’t going to cost you the earth. Most artists offer a print option for all original artwork, allowing you to feature something you love for a fraction of the price. And honestly, artwork adds so much to the room. It gives the room personality and purpose. Even a couple of small prints clustered together can make your master bedroom feel like a more inviting space you’ll want to be in long after the kids have gone to bed.

  1. Create your own personalised zone

Find that unused corner in your room and turn it into a zone creating the space that suits you. A dressing table to apply make up, a reading nook for night reading, a day bed for down time with hubby, a hanging chair for lazy Sunday morning reading… the list goes on! Every master bedroom needs a space to unwind that’s NOT on the bed. It will allow your room to become the place you’ll seek out after hours, or even in the early mornings before the chaos of the day begins.
